Ashton Kutcher Speech - 8/27/15

Ashton Kutcher's Teen Award speech was definitely thought provoking and somewhat intriguing! Kutcher focused on the internal rather than the external. This definitely needed to be stated AND heard, especially for young men and women. People can get extremely caught up in the materials of life, when in reality, it does not matter! Materials don't matter in the end. They're bullshit. The only true piece of life that matters in the end is YOUR soul. Kutcher made a daring and brave move through his powerful speech!

Literacy - 9/1/15

Literacy is the ability to speak, write, and read in your native tongue. Literacy is not a "one-size fitals all," rather it's about being able to communicate effectively in your native tongue. Unfortunately, many people are illiterate, resulting in a poorer lifestyle. The ability to be literate allows one to have self-expression through words or writings. It's an amazing gift to have, and many people take advantage (including me!). I believe we should be helping/encouraging others to become more literate, so we can make this a more positive world!

Geneology - 9/1/15

In all honesty, I don't know much about my ethnicity/birth parents. I was adoped at the age of eighteen months from an orphanage in Kamensk-Uralsky, Russia. My mother was eighteen years old with no financial stability. My father was the same way. I truly wish I knew more about my origins, but this is the only information I have!

Author Statement: Digital Essay - 10/22/15

I wanted to incorporate the never ending definitions of true happiness. I, honestly, haven't started the rough draft, so my team members lacked any commentary towards my topic. I want to mainly explain happiness and way to continue being happy in my digital essay. I don't want my essay to be too lengthy because then it loses substance. I want it to be an over view for my whole topic: What is true happiness?

This I Believe... - 9/29/15

I believe...       in connecting with your inner-self

                          in loving others

food is the source of all (many) health issues

                          equality proves important

                          religion is taken too seriously

Each journal entry above was specifically chosen to represent my thought pattern and mindset. I wanted to include entries that I felt were part of my morals, rules, and personality. I wanted to represent my personality through each entry. For example, in the first journal entry, I wanted the audience to understand my  thoughts about internal validation rather than external validation. I strived for the audience to pick up on the fact that I DO NOT stress materials in life. I stress authenticity, conscious living, and raw feelings. This thought process can also be seen with my last journal entry when I state my beliefs about equality, religion, and love.

Overall, I strived for rawness, authenticity, love, hurt, and acceptance through my journal entries, and my whole portfolio. I am not perfect. These entries represent me. David Flaherty.
